Help line: Who can help me?

We might feel sometimes so lost and alone that we need someone to talk to. We want to share our condition and thoughts with our beloved ones, but we just don't want to burden them with our problems. So what now?

Finding a professional help we don't know, but whom we can trust, can be difficult. In addition, we don't always have the financial ability to do this. The helplines can help you with specific problems or questions for different problems. You can find an overview of the child and family related options in this article.


The Listening Line (formerly: Sensoor) 0900 - 07 67 Available: 7 days a week, 24 hours a day (also chatting). For anyone who has a problem and wants to talk about it.



Education and behavior

Parent phone number 085 130 46 58 and can be reached by chat via Available: Monday to Friday 9:00 am - 3:00 pm and Thursday evening 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm. The Parent Phone offers a listening ear a nd is there for all parenting questions and family issues.


Parents phone number 0900 - 202 00 65 Available: on working days from 9.30 am to 1 pm. The Balans association specializes in questions about behavioral problems, learning problems and developmental problems, such as: ADHD, ADD, PDD-NOS and dyslexia.

Stichting KOG

023 - 532 12 23 Available: Mon, Fri and Sat from 9:00 am to 10:30 am. Private information point for children, parents and grandparents about youth care. KOG explains the rules, advises, names suitable lawyers, and (where possible) provides practical assistance.


Education and school

Parents & Education (formerly 5010) from landline: 0800 - 50 10 (free) from mobile: 0900 - 50 10 123 (45 cents per call)

Available: on school days from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Here you can ask all your educational questions, for example about toddlers, repeat grades, bullying problems, arguments with school, dyslexia, and so on. This helpline has been taken over by the 'Parents & Education' foundation.

Accessible: see opening hours on the website. Pharos, the association of parents of gifted children, answers questions about giftedness.


Burns Information Line

0900 - 044 00 44 Available: during working days from 10:00 to 12:00 and from 14:00 to 16:30. The burns information line has been set up especially for people with burns and their immediate environment.

Medicines Info Line (KNMP) Telephone line discontinued in 2010. For questions about medicines: call your pharmacy (or consult the website, which still exists).

Meningitis: Dutch Meningitis Foundation

06 - 36 58 58 26 Available: 24 hours a day (in emergencies). The Dutch Meningitis Foundation (NMS) can be reached day and night for parents in urgent cases via the above telephone number.

Chronically ill/vulnerable children (BVIKZ)

Loss and grief

Parents of a Deceased Child (OOK)

Go to the website, choose 'Immediate help' and you will be called back by a fellow sufferer.

Accessible: day and night via the website The Parents of a Deceased Child Association (OOK) is a self-help organization of parents of a deceased child who want to offer understanding and compassion to fellow sufferers.

Behind the Rainbow Foundation

Available: every morning except Wednesday, from 9 to 11 am. Help for grieving children and the people around them.

Support Center for Parents Knowledge Center for Palliative Care for Children

06 – 4566 3586 Available: every working day between 09:00 and 20:00. Parents/carers can come here with complicated issues concerning the quality of life of their child (0 to 23 years old) in the event of a serious illness.

Legal Affairs

Het Juridisch Loket (formerly: Bureau Rechtshulp) 0900 - 8020 Available: on working days from 09:00 to 20:00. Everyone can go to Het Juridisch Loket (formerly Bureau Rechtshulp) for free information and advice on legal matters.


General Youth Services

Advice and Complaints Bureau Youth Care (AKJ)

088 - 555 1000 Available: Monday to Thursday from 9 am to 5 pm. Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. On 1 January 2015, youth care was transferred to the municipalities. 'Bureau Jeugdzorg' therefore no longer exists. (The original youth care agencies may or may not be hired by the municipalities.) However, the national advice and complaints office (AKJ) still exists, but now as a project of the VNG (Association of Dutch Municipalities). The AKJ informs, advises and supports everyone with questions or complaints about youth care and youth assistance.

Sexuality and unwanted pregnancy

Available: from 09:00 to 13:00 and from 13:30 to 16:30. Are you pregnant or do you have to take care of your child on your own? The Fiom helps you further, even if you are not yet sure whether or not you want to have or keep the child. If you decide to have an abortion, the people at the Fiom office will guide and support you. The Fiom can also tell you what to do if you want to give up the baby.

Available: 24 hours a day for information; on working days from 2:00 pm to 10:00 pm for a personal meeting.

Gay & Lesbian Switchboard

Available: Monday to Friday from 10 am to 10 pm. Saturday and Sunday from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Information line for all questions related to homosexuality. From coming out to sports, going out and health.

MIND-Correlation / Rutgers Nisso

Available: Monday to Friday from 9 am to 6 pm. MIND-Correlation has taken over answering questions about sexuality from the Rutgers Nisso Group.


Association for the Protection of the Unborn Child 0900 - 202 10 88 Available 24 hours a day. The VBOK offers help to women who have run into problems due to an unexpected pregnancy. Also for women who have problems coping with an abortion or miscarriage and parents who are expecting a child with a disability.

Available: on working days from 08:00 to 20:00. The NVSH offers help, information and advice in the field of sexuality and relationships.
